the e.p kicks off with she can dance, a slow burning acid number that has elements of deep, grooving house from the detroit school. in fact, the second cut low control bares the influence of detroit too, with its murky, dubbed-out chords ala luke hess moving into a punchy bassline with minimal but functional drum patterns. proceedings get a bit more bouncy on the smoking hat, a quirky acid romp on the less daft side of ceephax, and the perfect soundtrack to accompany a feature-length documentary about.... a smoking hat. finishing up the e.p is fudge fingas remix of low control, the only man qualified to make an already deep as fuck track even deeper. theres been some on-point criticisms about a lot recent deep stuff getting lost in noodly jazz territory, but we are in no danger of that nonsense with fudge fingas at the controls: accomplished a musician he may be, hes never been one to lose the way, and this mix proves his deft and subtle remix talents. dabj done done it again, and hopefully this is the first in a long line of productions from vernon.

detroit veteran len bartush (mutate) returns to advance the series that began with the now classic circle 1. a full round kick and jack style upbeats are all that is necessary to support the deep, modulated synth lines that travel through lush plates of reverb. alberto pascual hits a homerun with his remix that will move any club, festival, or warehouse party. project 313s remix supplies moving synth lines are stripped down and replaced with driving rhythms and pulsating bass making this a superb techno offering. the plankton remix turns up the tension with warehouse style percussion and intertwining rhythms complimented by science- fictionesque stabs and pounding bass. the >circle 2< ep is an essential piece of detroit minimalism.

underbelly records return this january with a three track ep from dutch producer wouter de moor, entitled >dx love< and backed with a remix from kris wadsworth.
the kris wadsworths zombie surfer remix opens the ep here and in true wadsworth fashion embraces a raw, dubbed out detroit vibe. punchy drilling beats and underlying twisted melodies drive the track alongside a penetrating arpeggiated bass-line, the result is a moody, peak-time slow bloomer with a touch of class as expected from the detroit master.

back in the 90s orlando voorn was one of the first european producers to establish the bridge between detroit & europe. with countless releases on classic labels like kms, r&s records, clubstitute, international deejay gigolo, ignitor and esp records to name a few, voorn is a important name in the history of electronic music.

the >just for fun< ep starts with the title track just4fun, which in fact breathes fun and doesnt take itself too seriously. the funky and highly infectious keys and the butt shaking groove will remind you of a track that moodymann never made, but wishes he had. next comes unlimited01 with a joyful piano melody that would fit right into a french disco with a funkier version of alain delon behind the decks. still, the rhodes chords, the slow sexy groove, the vocal hooks will get you moving in no time. thang then goes into a more detroit beatdown direction with its deep chords and smooth pads. it creates a mellow atmosphere with an almost relaxed summer feeling. this is what a funky pimp would listen to on a night car drive. the ep ends with spiritual almost tribal rhythms. inspiration would be a nice soundtrack to a 70s orgy orchestrated by a groovy guru, surrounded by a magical circle of mystical dancers. over the top? sure, but the track would certainly get this party going.

arriving onto the electronic scene with i believe, on the monumental (10 records) compilation techno 2: the next generation (alongside carl craig, marc kinchen, and jay denham) in 1990, octave one is the brainchild of the phenomenal native sons of detroit, mi (usa), the burden brothers.

the 2 tracks that make up the first release to fully convey the spirit of the label, interconnectivity between different sound to agglomerate and coalesce into one nature, plastic music.
track a1 is as alien autopsy with his heart bursting with blood acid, remaining constant at its base remind chicago sounds.
track b1 is not blood but mechanically oil that through a metal body, gives rise to an endless journey between the dub techno and detroit area.
